- In a 2018 interview with Dread Central, the film’s director and writer, Michael Tully, spoke about the hurdles he faced in producing this particular horror movie. He said, “It took a long time to write… I knew what the movie would feel like. It’s not specifically horror or graphic, but that sense when I was younger, watching Bad Ronald (1974) or a movie that just felt unsettling.”
- Interestingly, the concept that the film is based on an urban legend of a haunted painting didn’t come until around the 15th draft. Tully stated he could probably create 10 different versions of this movie that don’t even look alike.
- The process of stringing together the drafts and finalizing the movie took about 3 to 4 years, including the time it took to secure enough funds. As Tully noted, making an original movie that’s more a psychological thriller, rather than horror—in the 3rd act blending elements of Andrei Tarkovsky and Ingmar Bergman’s works—was NOT something that attracted a lot of investment.
