Tasmania, Australia – Season 1

The first season of ‘Alone Australia’ was shot on the rugged West Coast of Tasmania, an island state south of mainland Australia. Tasmania is renowned for its ancient rainforests and jagged coasts. The area is chilly, secluded, and has harsh weather conditions, making it difficult for the contenders to live. Executive producer Rimma Daher stated, “The West Coast wilderness of Tasmania is tough and beautiful, perfect for our first season.”

The contenders struggled with the cold weather and the isolation. Another major problem was the hunting limitations. Many land creatures are legally protected, thus the participants had to rely on fishing and eating eels, making survival even more difficult.

Te Waipounamu, New Zealand – Season 2

The second season of ‘Alone Australia’ was set on Te Waipounamu, often known as New Zealand’s South Island. This location is well-known for its spectacular scenery and harsh weather.

The contenders confronted different hurdles here than in Tasmania. Most animals in New Zealand could be hunted, with the exception of culturally significant eels, therefore players could hunt possum, wild pig, and red deer. Rimma Daher observed, “Everything in New Zealand is bigger and more extreme.” “The landscape is larger, and so are the hazards. It’s colder, and the weather can be more extreme. Earthquakes and avalanches pose a real threat.”

Why these locations were choose?

Both Tasmania and Te Waipounamu were chosen for their beauty and difficulty. The producers wanted locations that would challenge the contestants to the fullest. Tasmania’s cold, coastal environment and legal hunting restrictions provided a unique survival challenge. Te Waipounamu’s vast and extreme landscape added new dangers and opportunities for the participants.
