- Burt Lancaster, who played the role of Bill Doolin in the movie, had hepatitis and unfortunately suffered a mild heart attack during filming.
- There was a minor goof in the movie where Bill Doolin hands a red 12-gauge shotgun shell to a kid. This is not accurate as the color coding scheme for shotgun shells was only introduced in the late 1960s.
