Trivia and Facts

  • The movie’s inventive use of ‘bleeping’ for foul language was one of the first instances of this technique being used in a theatrical release. Mickey Shaughnessy’s character uses ‘blue’ language that represented by comic bleeps on the soundtrack. This method of portrayal was directly referenced from the novel where the character’s language was also ‘bleeped’ out on the written page.
  • The film contains a consistency error with the ship’s bell ringing in the Navy, which is supposed to occur every 30 minutes. However, with the duration between the ringing of two and three bells during a staff meeting being only four minutes, the real-time scene doesn’t follow this rule.
  • The film is referenced in another movie, “Eva Gabor (2)”, released the same year in 1957.
