Trivia and Facts
- The story of Damon and Pythias emerged from the writings of the 4th-century BC philosopher Aristoxenus. In his accounts, both characters were followers of the philosophy of Pythagoras in Sicily.
- Pythias was accused of planning a scheme against Dionysius I which led to him getting the death sentence. But, he wished to return home and say goodbye to his family before his execution. Dionysius, suspecting that he only wanted to escape, accepted his request when Damon decided to become a captive in Pythias’s place.
- Pythias was late in returning back so Dionysius made up his mind to execute Damon. But, Pythias returned and offered to die instead of his friend. Dionysius was so touched by their friendship that he forgave them both. This act showcased the loyalty of Pythagoreans towards each other and their moral strength.
- This movie is a follow-up of “Damon and Pythias” from 1908.
