Trivia and Facts
- Duke Ellington who was the movie’s composer had to leave the scoring due to a tour. As a result, Van Cleave and Frank Comstock stepped in to orchestrate as well as complete the film’s score and arrangements. Only five of Ellington’s scores could be conserved with the rest being contributions from the arrangers. Sadly, the master tapes of the score are missing, limiting the extent of Ellington’s contribution.
- A noticeable goof up in the movie can be seen when the submarine is beneath the Queen Mary. The hand of a technician can be seen shaking the stern of the U-Boat model back and forth in the prop wake. Though it might not be visible in the pan/scan version, it is quite evident in the new Blu-Ray hi-def transfer.
- The film was also referenced in another movie “You’re a Big Boy Now” made in the same year 1966.
- A quote from the movie by character Mark Brittain “She’s so deep in my gut, we breathe together.” is quite noteworthy too.
